Apple to sell spare parts to consumers to repair iPhones, Macs

On 17th November,2021-Apple announced that it will begin selling spare parts to the customers to repair their own iPhones and Mac machines.

Initially, It will be available for the iPhone12 and iPhone13 followed by Mac Computers. The services will be available early next year in US and later will be extended to other countries.

According to, In 2019, Apple started a program where independent repair shops can buy its parts, tools and manuals. There are now 2,800 independent shops in its program in addition to its 5,000 directly authorized repair providers.

According to Apple newsroom, the initial phase of the program will focus on the most commonly serviced modules, such as the iPhone display, battery, and camera. The availability for additional repairs will be available later next year.

Self Service Repair

Individual professionals having the skills and competence to repair electronic devices can use 'Self Service Repair'.

Firstly, an individual has to read the 'Repair Manual' to verify that they can safely repair a device. The consumer will then use the 'Apple Self Service Repair Online Store' to place an order for Apple genuine parts and tools. Customers who return their used part/s for recycling after the repair will earn a credit towards their purchase.

Apple has increased the number of service sites that have access to Apple genuine parts, tools, and training in the last three years, including over 2,800 Independent Repair Providers.

Furthermore, Apple continues to provide customers with simple repair choices through its global network of over 5,000 Apple Authorized Repair Providers (AASPs), who assist millions of people with both in-warranty and out-of-warranty service for all Apple products.

By designing products for durability, longevity, and increased repairability, customers enjoy a long-lasting product that holds its value for years.

Apple also releases software upgrades on a regular basis to add new features and capabilities.
